See Europe's great tramway towns and cities
with Tramscape's detailed network photography :
The Tramscape tramway photograph
collection includes over 19,000 photos of mainly European tram systems from
the 1970s up until the present day.
The photos are primarily intended to illustrate trams in their
environments, the city surroundings, the track alignments and the
tramstops served, to provide a detailed snapshot of tram systems at
given points in time. The aim is to have a record of as much of each route of
the tram system as possible - something not necessarily available from the numerous
other sources of tramway information on the internet.
The photos are intended to be attractive pictures in their own right with well-balanced
views of tram and surrounding architecture and street life. No particular attention
is paid to illustrating the specific design features of the tramcars depicted.
Trams are the focal point of the photos and the common thread throughout Tramscape's
photo series. With the ever changing
cityscapes, the photos are becoming an increasingly interesting historical record.

Above : Montpellier in September 2009 : Another city which dispensed with
its trams but is now rebuilding a high quality network in double quick time
- and making this city in the South of France one of the most pleasant cities
to live in as the spaces around the tram lines are refurbished and "beautified".
NEW IN 2009 : London (Docklands Light Railway), Manchester,
Nice, Krakow, Katowice & Upper Silesia, Montpellier

No trams yet..... Track Construction for Line
1 at Florence, Italy : Situation at April 2008 in the central area
FLORENCE, ITALY : April 2008
Despite having been authorised
for ten years, line 1 of the new tram system in Italy's magnificent
Renaissance city is still nowhere near ready. We have a look at
the current state of construction works on the north bank of the
River Arno.
We also look at the proposed alignment for extending
the tramway closer to the city centre than the current planned terminus
at Stazione Santa Maria Novella - the route which has caused so
much protest by many sections of the local community

This
website does not intend to offer up-to-date news or detailed analysis of tram
systems. That would be impossible and there are already numerous good sources
on the internet. Tramscape's service is intended
to fill a gap in the availability of material on the internet - detailed route
photography. On the links page there are links to other private sites whose
scope is complementary to that of Tramscape and most sites will provide an extensive
links page of their own for further browsing. Links are also provided to tramway
operators' sites for official information (news, maps, fares etc) to help you
plan your own visit.
