 Tramways in transition

Stadtbahn brings change in Germany : 1979-2002

Dortmund.jpg

Detailed route studies and extensive historical notes from some of the tramway systems most frequently covered by Tramscape, which have changed significantly over the years as the "Stadtbahn" concept was introduced. Trams have long since disappeared from both these views.

Behind the "Iron Curtain" : 1985-1987

Political and economic changes in Eastern Europe have altered the infrastructure and environment considerably since these views were taken. The networks have been greatly cut in St Petersburg, Moscow and Kiev, where this view no longer features trams.

No trams yet.....   Track Construction for Line 1 at Florence, Italy : Situation at April 2008 in the central area

Florence April 2008.JPG

FLORENCE, ITALY : April 2008

Despite having been authorised for ten years, line 1 of the new tram system in Italy's magnificent Renaissance city is still nowhere near ready. We have a look at the current state of construction works on the north bank of the River Arno.

We also look at the proposed alignment for extending the tramway closer to the city centre than the current planned terminus at Stazione Santa Maria Novella - the route which has caused so much protest by many sections of the local community

Get Further Information about tramways on the Internet - the "Links" page

This website does not intend to offer up-to-date news or detailed analysis of tram systems. That would be impossible and there are already numerous good sources on the internet. Tramscape's service is intended to fill a gap in the availability of material on the internet - detailed route photography.
On the links page there are links to other private sites whose scope is complementary to that of Tramscape and most sites will provide an extensive links page of their own for further browsing. Links are also provided to tramway operators' sites for official information (news, maps, fares etc) to help you plan your own visit.

Internet Links : to official operators' sites, photo galleries and those sites of tramway enthusiasts reporting on their local systems
