Tramscape Tramway Photographs

Schoeneiche-Ruedersdorf, Germany
Almost exclusively single track through and between Rudersdorf and Schoneiche, this traditional tramway links in to the Berlin transport network at Friedrichshagen S-Bahn station, but retains its own very rural character.

1998

KT4D Tatra trams have been brought in from Cottbus to add some modernity to the service which was hitherto operated by two axle trams. The view above at Dorfstrasse in Schoneiche illustrated the two main problems facing the single-line operation in the modern era : single-track in the middle of the street and a semi-rural environment with limited traffic potential. neveretheless, the locals are attached to "their tramway".

2005

Modernisation of the track and overhead had begun in earnest, and the rolling stock improved once again, but this time with Duwag cars originally from Heidelberg, which were much older - but better - than the Tatras they replaced. This view is at Gratzwalde, on the eastern edge of Schoneiche, where the line begins the "overland" run to neighbouring Rudersdorf. New platforms are adapted to low-floor cars - but new trams are out of the question.

2006

Eight views at Berlin-Friedrichshagen of ex-Heidelberg trams 41 and 42. The tramway spent the first half of 2006 worrying about its long term future as the local authority covering all of the line except the Friedrichshagen terminus was refusing to release the finance necessary to support operations and continue its modernisation. Fortunately a solution was found which has now secured the line's future in the medium term..
