1991

The precinct on Breiter Weg shows the style of rebuilding after destruction in World War II adopted in the German Democratic Republic. The main central department store, seen on the extreme left of the photo, has already been taken over by the West German Karstadt chain and is awaiting refitting to western standards.

1998

New construction, such as opposite Hauptbahnhof is beginning to change the face of Magdeburg.

85 photos show, in detail, not only the city centre but also t
he routes to and at the modern housing developments of Olvenstedt, Neustadter See and Lerchenwuhne and views in older parts of the city on the routes to Sudenburg, Leipziger Chaussee and Diesdorf.

2005

By 2005, Magdeburg had a thoroughly modern tramway, with its LHB-built NGT8D low floor trams wearing well after ten years of service, and seen here at A-Puschkin-Strasse on a newly opened line on Westring. The line is scheduled for further southward extension to create a ring around the inner suburbs.
