Tramscape Tramway Photographs

Ludwigshafen, Germany

The timetable change of 11th December 2005 heralded service frequency cuts, the replacement of all tram services except line 4 by buses after 9 pm in the evening and the complete closure of line 11. This closure means the end of tram services between Friesenheim and Schoppenhauer Strasse on the Oppau route and also even less traffic through the tunnel between Rathaus and Hauptbahnhof. Although the tracks are not due to be lifted it is unclear whether a return of services to this line will happen due to poor passenger loadings.

Line 11 runs through the streets of Friesenheim, seen here at Ruthenstrasse (with tram 137 on what was line 9 in 1984)

Route 10 to Friesenheim remains but the short single-track diversion via Ebertpark (above, seen in 1996) is now closed.
