Tramscape Tramway
Photographs
Geneva,
Switzerland : 2005
December 2004 saw the further extension
of the Geneva tramway : from Cornavin to Place des Nations in the north and
from Pleinpalais to Lancy Pont-Rouge in the south west allowing a new route
joining both new termini to be inaugurated. Work is already under way, extending
the new line through the "village" of Lancy and then along the wide
Route des Communes-Reunies to meet the line to Bachet-de-Pesay which had already
been extended to Palettes in 1997. The last of 21 new "Flexity-Outlook"
trams, the new name for Bombardier's "Cityrunner", came into service
only in June 2005. Bombardier won the contract for new trams after the successful
trial operation in Geneva of cars recently delivered to Lodz in Poland.
