1997 One of the most famous landmarks in Dresden is the Zwinger Palace (far left), close to Postplatz, the main central tram interchange. Following the incorporation of East Germany into the Federal Republic, it was assumed that many of Dresden's numerous tram lines would be closed. tracks in Tharandter Strasse, seen left at Clara-Viebig-Strasse, were one of the few to close, but even in this case, the link to Coschutz was maintained by a new more direct link. 117 photos illustrate the network six years after joining the Federal Republic |

2004 By 2004, the Dresden tramway presented an extremely modern image, such as at Reichenbachstrasse, far left, with new platforms, street furniture and grassed track alignments. Far from route closures, new extensions have been built, including to the new Elb-Center shopping mall, served by new trams gradually replacing the ubiquitous standard Tatra sets. 228 photos illustrate this high quality tramway system. |
