Views of the
"Heliopolis Metro", the extensive tramway system in the city of
Heliopolis, a north-eastern suburb of Egypt's capital city, Cairo.
First established as a "new town" at the end of the nineteenth
century, Heliopolis has many wide boulevards which have allowed the
trams to run on central reservations for much of their routes and the
more spacious and less hectic environment has ensured that trams
continue in operation whilst the lines in central Cairo have been
closed.
