Tramscape Tramway
Photographs
Budapest,
Hungary : 1986
Despite substantial route closures,
Budapest remains an extremely large tram system and much of the
remaining network is being upgraded to the best modern standards.
This includes route 1 which is being re-cast as a high speed tramway
of which views at Robert Karoly Korut are included.
A well as extensive coverage of the city centre on the flatter Pest
side of the river, at Kalvin ter, Lenin korut and along the Danube
waterfront, passing the Parliament building, views include Moszkva
ter on the Buda side and Pesterszebet on the Pest side.
A fascinating three-mode journey to and along the Buda hills from
Moszkva ter features the rack tramway to Szechenyi Hegi, where
interchange is made with the Pioneer railway, a diesel hauled
narrow-gauge railway staffed primarily by children. The Pioneer
railway runs to Huvosvolgy, where the connection is made to the city
tramway for the return trip to Moszkva ter.
