Brno has a extensive and modern tram system, well patronised and operating close headways in an attractive city environment : a tram photographer's paradise. It has a varied range of tram types, such as this articulated Tatra, seen at Ceska (above), one of the busy tram stops in the city centre,.

Brno is a very attractive historical city and views from the south-west are dominated by the St Peter and Paul Cathedral which stands high on a hill above the city centre. Modern, refurbished Tatra articulated trams on reserved alignment illustrate the quality of public transport available in Brno.

Many of the Tatras were rebodied in recent refurbishments. 1751, seen at Svratecka, above, has a revised front and a new low floor centre section. Brno now also has low floor Astra trams delivered by Skoda and two new low floor trailers which normally run sandwiched between two Tatra T3s

Tram tracks between Hlavni nadrazi and Moravske namesti via Masarykova, namesti Svobody and Rasinova were temporarily closed for relaying in connection with the pedestrianisation of the city centre and re-modelling of namesti Svobody, the central "square". The fact that tracks have been re-layed is good news as there have been long discussions as to their future, whether complete closure or replacement by an underground tramway. The latter concept has been developed to preliminary design stage, but for the moment is not being progressed further. A proposed re-siting and expansion of the central station (Hlavni nadrazi) to the south of the existing location is likely to proceed.
