Tramscape Tramway

Brandenburg,
Germany :
8th April, 1998
The primarily
single track route to Kirchmoser-West had been run as a shuttle
service from Anton-Saefkow-Allee with double ended ex-Freiburg GT4
trams since January 1998. This solution, arising from problems with
KT4Ds using the Kirchmoser West loop, allowed the Gotha two-axle
trams to be withdrawn.
The views in the narrow streets of Plaue were expected to become
history by 2001 when the old Plauer Brucke bridge was to be replaced
without provision for trams, but a temporary reprieve was given and
the line from Anton-Saefkow-Allee finally closed in 2003.
The modern housing development of Hohenstucken provides a stark
contrast to the village of Plaue. The route back to the very
picturesque centre of Brandenburg runs via the new Gordenbrucke,
Fontanestrasse, Magdeburger Strasse and Nicolaiplatz to Hauptstrasse.
The Jahrtausendbrucke bridge had been recently renovated and the
Hauptstrasse precinct reopened after a five year closure to
trams.
Central tram stops at Neustadtische Markt, Steinstrasse,
Jacobstrasse, GrosseGartenstrasse and Blumenstrasse are illustrated.
Also included are views at Nicolaiplatz, Magdeburger Strasse plus
Dreifertstrasse and Sudtor on the Quenzbrucke route. Trams 153 and
154 are two of three KT4Ds built in 1990 and borrowed from Cottbus to
ease capacity problems. Low-floor tram 100, the first of a new
series, has been in service since
14/10/95.
