PCC cars directly derived from pre-war USA designs and built in Belgium under licence have dominated Antwerp's rolling stock for many years. One such car is seen at Groenplaats in the city centre.

The city had ambitious plans to put its trams underground and embarked on a large tunnel building programme. Money ran out and some stretches remained unopened for many years - but this station at Diamant was in operation
